Village of Montgomery

Kane County has a naturalized stormwater basin ordinance and the Village of Montgomery has adopted a set of guidelines for meeting the ordinance. New developments in Montgomery that require detention basins have to be naturalized. The developer is responsible for installing the basin and gaining acceptance through the Village. Once accepted the HOA is responsible for long-term maintenance. If there is no HOA or if the HOA defaults on its responsibility for these basins the Village implements a SSA (Special Service Area) where it levies funds from the HOA and hires a contractor to maintain the basin on behalf of the Village. Pizzo won the first maintenance contract issued back in 2007 and have been performing under that contract since. We started on the first basins in the fall of 2007 and have continued to add basins each year. The basins have been installed and maintained by our competitors and in general have been in poor shape when we took them over (as witnessed by the before photos). In two or three short years we’ve dramatically increased the wildflower content and eliminated most weed content, turning these sub-par restorations into likely award winners (EPA award applied for this year) through aggressive re-seeding, re-planting, and general stewardship.
